Mark Ronson, Q-Tip Celebrate Michael Jackson at Birthday Party

August 30, 2009

If you’re the guy who always requests Michael Jackson at the DJ booth – last night was your dream show!!

Mark Ronson (top photo), Q-Tip (middle) and DJ Spinna (bottom) hit New York’s Nokia Theatre Saturday night to celebrate what would have been the King of Pop’s 51st birthday.

The threesome spun every song possible – including “Blame It on the Boogie,” “Bad,” “I Want You Back” and “Do You Remember The Time” – while patrons wearing top hats and sparkly gloves danced in the crowd.

Check out two videos of the fun, below!

Coheed and Cambria Storm New York; Talk Production on Fifth Album

August 29, 2009

While we all patiently wait for Coheed and Cambria‘s Spring prequel album (of which Poison Ivy can confirm four songs have already been recorded in Pasadena with producers Atticus Ross and Joe Barresi), the band have hit the road for a handful of dates with Black Sabbath offshoot band Heaven and Hell.

P.I. had the chance to check out the fantastic show and chat with CoCa after their Madison Square Garden gig Tuesday night, and it was one very metal affair!

Frontman Claudio Sanchez debuted his newest Gibson – a Flying V he says makes “the sound stray” more than ever, and drummer Chris Pennie told us that Barresi and Ross were “totally insightful” in the studio.

“It takes balls and foresight to give someone a chance,” Pennie said.

The Bravery Blast Through NYC Show

August 27, 2009

“This next song is about a bar in Brooklyn I used to live at,” says The Bravery frontman Sam Endicott, in between sips of Amstel Light.

The boys were back in their hometown of NYC Wednesday night, playing a Bloc Group concert at Webster Hall, and the song Endicott introduced was multi-platinum hit “Believe,” the song that soundtracked every television show from Gossip Girl to Prison Break back in 2007.

The band also played other hits – “Time Won’t Let Me Go,” “Swollen Summer,” “Fearless,” and a finale featuring our personal favorite, “Honest Mistake.”

Check out the fantastic performances below.

Heaven and Hell Tear Up the Garden

August 26, 2009

We’re not going to bullshit you.

The real reason we went to Madison Square Garden Tuesday night was to see Coheed and Cambria. Not Britney or Ciara or even Heaven and Hell. But once we started watching these dudes rock, we couldn’t stop!

Ronnie James Dio is a full-on rock god, and while horrifying at times, his stage presence was some of the most commanding we’ve ever seen.

Check out a clip of Heaven and Hell’s “I” below, and see what we’re talking about.

Video: Britney’s Bedroom Dance at Madison Square Garden

August 26, 2009

U know it’s going to be a crazy night when Britney Spears, Ciara, Kristinia DeBarge, Coheed and Cambria and Heaven and Hell are all playing Madison Square Garden.

We felt like our brains were about to implode!!!

Here’s a lil video we brought back from Britney, performing a risque, sexy, framed bedroom dance. (How else would you describe this thing???)
