Boys Like Girls Tear Up NYC

November 29, 2009

“Man I miss playing New York City,” says Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson as the band gets onstage at Nokia Theatre Tuesday night.

And it would appear New York missed BLG back!
Hundreds of fans – many of whom started lining up around three a.m. – wrapped around the Times Square venue Tuesday, singing BLG tunes, sharing stories, and getting ready to see the band play with Cobra Starship, The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon and VersaEmerge.
“We just put this record out called Love Drunk,” Johnson announced during the show, before rocketing into a slew of new and old hits: “Thunder,” “Hero/Heroine,” “Heart Heart Heartbreak,” “Five Minutes to Midnight,” “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and “Love Drunk,” to name a few.
Of course we brought back a killer clip: BLG’s balls-out opening number of Black Eyed Peas‘ “I Gotta Feeling” transitioning into “Love Drunk.”

November 28, 2009

We understand it was cold, and they were on a moving float, but really???

American Idol season five runner-up Katharine McPhee and R&B singer Jay Sean showed no shame while lip-synching through singles “Have It All” and “Down” (respectively) Thursday morning at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

On the other hand, we give thanks to Ziggy Marley, Andrea Bocelli, Boys Like Girls, The Roots and Gloria Gaynor for taking the high road and actually performing!!!

Lady GaGa Leaves Audience "Speechless" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

November 28, 2009

Lady GaGa visited our favorite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres Friday to talk fashion, perform “Bad Romance” and “Speechless,” and discuss being a freak in high school.

“I didn’t fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak,” GaGa said. “So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans, where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don’t feel alone.”

“In high school you feel discriminated against,” GaGa went on. “And you want to be like everyone else, but not really. On the inside, you really want to be like Boy George! Well I did, anyway.”

Check out Lady GaGa’s chat with Ellen above, and performance of singles “Bad Romance” and “Speechless,” below.

Leighton Meester Sings "Good Girls Go Bad" Live with Cobra Starship for the First Time

November 28, 2009

We were seriously praying that Leighton Meester would spare us an appearance at the Cobra Starship/Boys Like Girls/The Maine concert Tuesday night at Nokia Theatre.

But, seeing how it was a New York show, and Meester is a delusional, we brought our video camera just in case.
And whaddaya know!
Meester got onstage in the middle of CS’ “Good Girls Go Bad” to perform a sultry, vocally-traumatizing rendition of the song.
We honestly don’t know how she gets away with this s***!!
Meester was scantily clad, dancing like an MF stripper, and bailing on all of her high notes! It’s as if she was (gasp!) auto-corrected on the studio version!
To top it off, this was Cobra’s first time collaborating live with Meester.
“One day I’m hoping Leighton Meester gets on stage and performs this song with us,” alluded Cobra frontman Gabe Saporta. “It would be the first time we’ve ever performed it together.”
That’s when Meester popped out of the sidestage and shimmied her way to the front, as Saporta screamed, “Oh my god, it’s Leighton Meester!”
Oh my god, it’s a delusional actress! is what he should have screamed.
Check out the trauma, if you dare, above.

Video: The Maine Cover Def Leppard’s "Pour Some Sugar on Me"

November 28, 2009

What a night!!

After we got done chatting with The Maine‘s Garrett Nickelsen and Pat Kirch, we trekked over to New York’s Nokia Theatre to watch the boys open up for Cobra Starship and Boys Like Girls.
The Maine were a little more immature onstage than we had imagined…. Example? When singer John O’Callaghan asked guitarist Jared Monaco if he remembered “when that girl threw a Jolly Rancher onstage and it hit my wiener.”
“Gross,” Monaco replied.
The show was still good fun though, with the boys playing jams like “Girls Do What They Want,” “Into Your Arms,” “Everything I Ask For,” and a fantastic cover of Def Leppard‘s “Pour Some Sugar on Me.”
Check it out, along with O’Callaghan’s salute to Poison Ivy (around the 00:20 mark), above.

Tiger Woods Involved in Car Crash

November 27, 2009

Tiger Woods has been injured in a car accident that took place outside of his Florida home early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Woods was pulling out of his driveway in a 2009 Cadillac around 2:25 A.M. Friday when he struck a fire hydrant, then drove into a tree on his neighbor’s property.

Update: Woods’ manager reports that the pro golfer is “fine” after an overnight hospital visit at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, and FHP is reporting that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
