Talking Shop with Jaslene Gonzalez

September 6, 2009

It’s a great day to be a New Yorker!!!!

Especially when you walk into a Murray Hill nail salon, and run into America’s Next Top Model cycle eight winner Jaslene Gonzalez!!

We have to admit, we’ve met top models before, but Gonzalez was by far the sweetest! And the most beautiful!!

“I’m going to Asia tomorrow for two and a half months,” she told Poison Ivy Saturday, adding that visiting international markets were a crucial step in making it as a supermodel.

Her dream campaigns – which include Versace and Dolce and Gabbana – don’t seem too far out of reach.

In two years, Gonzalez has modeled for Armani Exchange, Lot29, Aubrey O’Day‘s line Heart on Her Sleeve, Custo Barcelona, as well as appeared in dozens of magazines like Us Weekly and In Touch Weekly. Gonzalez has also rocked four billboards in Times Square!!!

“The last two years have been a whirlwind,” she told us.

America’s Next Top Model was a great experience, but I’m still competing with other supermodels here in New York,” Gonzalez added.

It took a few moments for Gonzalez’ nail tech to realize he was filing the nails of a world-reknowned supermodel. “You fashion model?” he asked, during our conversation.

The ever-modest Gonzalez smiled.

“I do model, yes.”

New York Dolls Return to Their Roots

May 6, 2009

“This is beyond my wildest dreams,” New York Dolls frontman David Johansen said, as the Dolls took the stage at 315 Bowery (former home of CBGB and new home to designer John Varvatos) Tuesday night around 9:45.

It’s been 38 years, but the man’s still still got it. The 59-year old ripped through over a dozen jams with ease, rage, and (so what?) a little help from his lyrics sheets. The performance was in honor of the band’s newest release (Cause I Sez So, out yesterday), but the boys managed to pepper some rocking classics (“Trash,” “Stranded in the Jungle”) through the predominantly new set.

Varvatos, a long-time rock supporter and Dolls fan, opted to sync the performance with a live broadcast to his new Sirius Radio rock ‘n’ roll show, which also launched Tuesday.

Also supporting the boys in attendance were rock fanatic Rachael Ray, Semi-Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter, America’s Next Top Model winner CariDee English, handbag designer Jack Germain, and famed rock photographer Bob Gruen, who shot a Dolls documentary in the early ’70s.

Said Gruen:

“Life goes on and things change, but David’s the best entertainer around and the band is one of the best out there. I don’t live in the past, and I don’t think the Dolls do either.”

America’s Next Top Model Gives New Yorkers a Second Chance

April 7, 2009

After a chaotic riot erupted at the March 16 New York auditions for America’s Next Top Model, producers are giving New Yorkers another shot!!

Only this time, the rules have changed.
Auditions will be held this Saturday, April 11, at a venue to be later disclosed. The line will form at 6 a.m. (no more overnight waits), and friends will not be permitted in line. (Models under 18 may have one parent or guardian.)
Anything else???
“Be courteous to others around you,” the network press release reads.
Until you get on the show, that is!

Semi Precious Weapons’ Rock & Roll Rager

April 1, 2009

“You all look fucking fantastic,” Semi Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter announced amid a performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in SoHo Tuesday night.

“Luckily, no one looks better than me. If they did, I’d have them removed immediately.”

The glam rocker was performing at the launch of his very own Vamp Collection, an extension of his existing jewelry line, Fetty. And he got by with the help of a ton of celebrity friends.

Rock band Cinema Bizarre (on tour with Lady GaGa, top) showed up for the show, along with America’s Next Top Model cycle seven winner Caridee English. Project Runway season four winner Christian Siriano also came by, while Chet Cannon and Scott Herman from the Real World: Brooklyn chatted with Poison Ivy about their post-Real World plans.

Said Cannon:

“I want to do some music reporting, but I have to wait til my contract’s up with MTV [one year from now].”

“I also want to start a blog but I’m too lazy,” Cannon admitted, after we got on the subject of Poison Ivy.

Herman’s agenda is slightly different, with the reality TV star hoping to get into professional modeling or acting once his contract is up.

“I want to be a professional actor,” Herman said. “I want to be Captain America. I already have the shield at home.”

Tranter certainly felt like Captain America by the end of the night.

“I’m feeling amazing,” he told PI. “I feel like my brain threw up on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

Riot Erupts at America’s Next Top Model Auditions

March 15, 2009

Three people were arrested during the New York auditions for the CW’s America’s Next Top Model in New York Saturday, after a fight broke out, which reportedly led to a bomb scare.
Thousands of girls, some who had lined up the night before, heard someone in the crowd yelling, “There’s a bomb!” and started stampeding their way out.
So scary!
Two women were hospitalized and at least half a dozen were injured.
“We all fell on top of each other,” said Rose, of Scranton, Pa. “People were squished against the wall, screaming, ‘I can’t breathe! I can’t ‘breathe!'”

Check out a video of the chaos here.
