Jet Drummer Talks New Record

July 9, 2009

Australian power rockers Jet took the stage at New York’s Gramercy Theatre for nearly two hours Wednesday night, playing jams off their latest record Shaka Rock (due August 25) and tons of breakthrough hits: “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” “Cold Heart Bitch,” and “Look What You’ve Done,” to name a few!

But what’s it like to be in a band with four members living in four different countries (England, U.S., Australia and Italy)??

“It’s like a long-distance relationship without sex,” drummer Christopher Cester tells Poison Ivy from backstage.

“No phone sex either,” Cester clarifies.

“This was the most fun of all three records to make,” Cester adds, of the band’s forthcoming Shaka Rock. “There was no big Hollywood producer… all of the art direction was ours. It’s my favorite record to listen to out of all of them.”

Check out two videos we grabbed from the set: “Get What You Need,” above, and the raging, in-the-crowd encore, “Cold Heart Bitch,” below. For a band that spans 20,000 miles in distance, the boys sure know how to pull a show together!
