Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan Undergoes Surgery

May 28, 2009

Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan has undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his bladder, the band’s official site reveals.

“Depeche Mode are pleased to announce they will restart their interrupted Tour Of The Universe in Leipzig, Germany on June 8th,” the statement reads.

Gahan was diagnosed with gastroenteritis after an emergency hospital visit May 12, which led to the cancellation of several international shows.

In the online statement, Gahan “sincerely thanks his fans for their support, understanding and patience.”

In addition, “Depeche Mode deeply regret any problems or inconveniences the cancellations and postponements may have caused.”

Depeche Mode Prepare to Take Over Universe

March 23, 2009

On the heels of their April 21 release Sounds of the Universe, Depeche Mode are planning a four-month, 57-date arena “Tour of the Universe,” which will begin May 10 in Tel Aviv and conclude September 5 in Fort Lauderdale.

Says Mute Records chairman Daniel Miller:
“The mainstream pop kids tend to jump from one thing to another, from one artist to another. Then they get married and give up. They might buy two albums a year. I think Depeche fans are very different than that. There are those in their 40s who’ve grown up with the band — but there are a lot of people who have joined along the way and have become very loyal.
