Honor Society, Sebastian Set the Stage for Timbaland

January 22, 2010

One of our favorite parts about the Diddy and Lil’ Kim-featured Timbaland concert Wednesday night were T’s opening acts: Honor Society and Sebastian!

We’d seen Honor Society perform over the summer during a break from their Jonas Brothers World Tour – but this time, the boys were tighter than ever, alternating their 80’s-infused pop numbers with acoustic covers of modern songs (Jay Sean‘s “Down,” for example).

“We’re lucky enough to share the stage with the greatest in the game, Timbaland,” singer Michael Bruno told the crowd, before rocketing into the beyond-catchy “Here Comes Trouble.” (Check out a clip of the performance, above.)

Sebastian, Timbaland’s younger brother, served as the second opener, rap-crooning through jams like “Wobbley” before recruiting special guest Petey Pablo to the stage for a performance of “Goodies!”

Timbaland sure knows how to draw a lineup!

I spy in NY…

Rachel Bilson hanging at the Target To-Go kickoff Friday (top photo), Honor Society rocking the New York Stock Exchange tree lighting ceremony Thursday (middle photo), John Mayer and Taylor Swift performing “Half of my Heart” live for the first time at the Z100 Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden Friday (bottom photo), Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory performing an acoustic set at Highline Ballroom Friday, John Legend playing piano at Tom Colicchio‘s Top Chef finale dinner sponsored by American Express at Craftsteak Wednesday, Mark Ingram scooping up the Heisman Award at Nokia Theatre Saturday night, and Matisyahu tearing it up at a Hanukkah concert at Webster Hall Saturday night.

Meet Jessie James

July 24, 2009

The other day we told you about the poptastic concert we went to from Jonas Brothers‘ opening act Honor Society.

Well, we also wanted to alert you to Honor Society’s opening act – a lil lady named Jessie James!

James is a 21 year-old Georgia gal with twangy, soprano pipes and a pension for songs about high heels and heartbreak.

Kind of like if Carrie Underwood met Kelly Clarkson!

We really liked JJ’s music, but wish she had a little more confidence and played with her hair a LOT less.

Thoughts???

Honor Society Sell Out Gramercy Theatre

July 23, 2009

There’s no better gig for an up-and-coming pop band than opening for the Jonas Brothers on their world tour. And now that New Jersey-based Honor Society have done that, they’re ready to headline!!

Last night was Honor Society’s first sold-out show on their Full Crazy Moon Tour (which alternates with JB’s World Tour) at New York’s Gramercy Theatre. Sold out – and they have yet to release their first record!!

HS played nearly an hour of jams, including hit single “See You in the Dark,” croony “Where Are You Now” and infectious “Here Comes Trouble.”

They’re kind of like New Kids on the Block with guitars!!

“They’re more accessible than the Jonas Brothers,” a twenty-something in the front row tells Poison Ivy, as a reason why she started liking them more than JB. (Mind you, the said twenty-year-old drove from Virginia to see them after also catching their July 13 show in D.C.)

If you haven’t already, visit Honor Society’s MySpace here, and click above to check out a snippet of their poptastic jam “Nobody Has to Know.”
