Jesse McCartney Scores Big at ASCAP Pop Awards

More than 600 music industry insiders attended the ASCAP Pop Awards in Hollywood Wednesday to salute musicians behind the most popular tunes of 2008.

Jesse McCartney was among one of the top honorees, scoring big with the song of the year award (shared with OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder) for Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love.”
Said McCartney:
“Being recognized by ASCAP is a great honor as a songwriter, and I am very grateful for this award. The success of this song would not have been possible without Leona’s stunning vocals and amazing approach.”
In addition, Wyclef Jean earned the Creative Voice Award, while songwriter of the year went to Stargate for writing six of the most performed songs of the year: Jordin Sparks “Tattoo,” Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” and “Don’t Stop the Music,” Ne-Yo’s “Closer” and “Miss Independent,” and Chris Brown’s “With You.”

The pop crooner showed up in his trademark gray suit, white sneakers and aviator shades to serenade a sold-out 3,000-capacity venue. He rocked new hits like “Leavin'” and “How Do You Sleep?” along with classics like “Beautiful Soul” and “She’s No You.”
