Kanye West Back in the Studio

January 4, 2010

Kanye West has taken to his blog to announce (in all caps, of course) that he is back in the studio.

The five-year old rapper writes:

“FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR CONSTANT LOVE AND SUPPORT OVER THESE PAST 6 YEARS! I’M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK IN THE STUDIO MAKING NEW MUSIC. I WILL BRING YOU THE BEST I HAVE TO OFFER WITH THE SAME DEDICATION THAT KOBE HAS ON THE COURT. IT’S FUNNY HOW SO MANY RAPPERS GET WORSE AS THEIR CAREERS STRETCH OUT BUT TRUE POETS GET BETTER. WE WILL FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MAYA ANGELOU, GILL SCOTT HERRON AND NINA SIMONE. THEIR WORK IMPROVED WITH TIME. THEY DOCUMENTED WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN CULTURE. THAT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS THE MODERN DAY ARTISTS AND POETS, TO ACCURATELY REPRESENT WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW, SO WHEN THE POWERS THAT BE TRY TO REWRITE HISTORY YOU CAN ALWAYS LOOK AT OUR WORKS AND FIND TRUTH AND SINCERITY IN A WORLD OF PROCESSED INFORMATION. LET US SOAK IN POSITIVE FORCES AND LOOK DOWN ON UPON THOSE WHO MASQUERADE AS TRUTH TELLERS AND OBJECTIVE FACT GIVERS WHEN IN REALITY EVERYTHING THAT IS PROJECTED HAS AN AGENDA OF BRAINWASHING US, THE “CONSUMER”, THE PUBLIC, TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY WANT US TO. LET US LOOK PAST HEADLINES AND DEAL WITH JUST A BIT OF REALITY IN THIS NEW DECADE. WE HAVE OUR OWN OUTLETS NOW. WE DON’T HAVE TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING ANYMORE. NOW I’LL FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MAKE THAT RYHME LOL!!!”

Hmmm…..

Does anybody still care what West has to say?

The Fray Broadcast Yankees Win, Cover Kanye West at Bob Woodruff Benefit

November 5, 2009

It’s just before midnight on Wednesday, and The Fray frontman Isaac Slade approaches the stage at the Bob Woodruff Foundation benefit at B.B. King Blues Club in New York.

“Congratulations, the New York Yankees have won the World Series,” he says.

Slades then sets his MacBook down on the piano in front of him and dives into a song, while broadcasting victory clips of the win on his laptop for the audience.

The Fray’s set was part of Woodruff’s benefit to support injured war veterans and their families – planned by Bloc Group philanthropist Matthew Isaacs and attended by celebrity guests like Wilmer Valderrama and DJ Grandmaster Flash (bottom photo).

The Fray played a 10-song set that included hits “Over My Head (Cable Car),” “How To Save a Life,” “She,” and “You Found Me,” but also included one unexpected jam – a Kris Allen-esque cover of Kanye West‘s “Heartless.”

Check out the fantastic cover, and Slade’s Yankees broadcast, below.

Lady GaGa/Kanye West Tour Canceled

October 1, 2009

It was to be the biggest tour of 2009, but for some reason unbeknownst to ANYONE, the Kanye West/Lady GaGa “Fame Kills” tour has been called off!

Concert promoters Live Nation have just confirmed the sad news.

Think this has something to do with the ridiculous stint West pulled at last month’s VMAs?

Was his damage that irreversible??

Lady GaGa, Pink Nail VMA Performances

September 14, 2009

It wasn’t easy to concentrate on the groundbreaking performances at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. We found ourselves either celebrating the life of Michael Jackson or wanting to beat the daylights out of Kanye West.

But, let’s get back to the music, shall we?

In case you missed it, here are Poison Ivy’s top two performances of the evening: a manic, blood-infused version of “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga, and an acrobatic, nail-biting rendition of “Sober” by Pink.

Enjoy!

Video: Kanye West Bum-Rushes Taylor Swift’s Acceptance Speech

September 14, 2009

This will arguably be the most talked about moment from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, and possibly VMAs history!!

Click above to watch Kanye West‘s inappropriate stage rush during Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech for Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me.”

“Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish,” West began, “but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.” West was of course referring to the video for “Single Ladies,” which later won highest honors for Video of the Year.

But West wouldn’t know that, because homeboy got kicked out!!!

Beyonce appeared horrified as the camera panned to her after West’s outburst, and she later called Swift onstage during her Video of the Year acceptance to give her the moment she deserved.

“I remember being 17-years-old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life,” Beyonce said. “So I would like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”

Video: The Dream Performs "Walking on the Moon"

Sure, it sounds a little different without Kanye West, but this performance of The Dream singing “Walking on the Moon” is still as hypnotic as ever!!

The 27 year-old “Umbrella” producer/hit factory visited New York’s Hiro Ballroom last night for a special show brought to you by Bloc Group. Dream rocked jams like “My Love,” (a song he penned for Mariah Carey), “I Luv Your Girl” and “Rockin That Shit.”
