Kenley Collins Confirms Plus-Size Line, Shows Spring Collection at Charity Event

October 22, 2009

We always have a fun time when we hang with Project Runway season five finalist Kenley Collins.

Collins is elegant, talented and fiercely honest – and we got to see a glimpse of all three during her a showing of her Spring ’10 collection (inspired by Amelia Earhart) at Wednesday night’s Forte/Seam Collective runway show at the Metropolitan Pavilion.

Designers Marissa Erskine (top photo, left), Elizabeth Rynish (center-right) and Sheila Frank (right) also presented their collections, all in the name of a great cause: Gilda’s Club NYC, which provides support to cancer patients and their families.

The night was also something of a Project Runway season five reunion, as designers Daniel Feld and Stella Zotis (bottom photo) came out to support their castmate!

Poison Ivy ran into Collins pre-show (in the bathroom of all places), and asked about her long-term plans.

“I just did a plus-size line,” Collins confirmed, which New York Magazine speculated about last month.

That’s when a runway model came flying out of a nearby stall.

“What’s considered plus-size?” she asks. “My friend, just as skinny as me, is a plus-size model. She has to get padded.”

“No, I’m doing big girls,” Collins assures us.

“You know what would be cute?” the model goes on. “A maternity line!”

Collins glances in the mirror and pauses as she blots her lipstick on a dispensed paper towel.

“That would be cute,” she finally agrees.

“If somebody approaches me, I’ll do it.”

When Kenley Met Ivy

Despite a bizarre and highly-publicized tiff with her ex, we gotta say, Project Runway season five finalist Kenley Collins is actually a nice gal!

We ran into her at Mr. West in New York Friday night, where she debuted a cropped ‘do, denied throwing anything at her ex, and told us about her website, where you can purchase silk organza dresses with names like “Vanity Heiress” and “WWII Widow.”
All the best, KC!

Quote of the Day

This should put a clear answer to the question I am most frequently asked, ‘Was Kenley really that awful, or was she just edited like that?’ When she got angry, I knew to keep my distance. Clearly, she needs therapy. I feel a little sorry for her that she can’t control her emotions and behavior, but on the other hand, absolutely nothing excuses physical violence and throwing a poor, defenseless kitty at someone who is sleeping. I feel bad for the cat, the bruised apples and Zak.”
