Matisyahu Jams with Kenneth Cole for Fashion Week

September 11, 2009

“You’re about to meet my favorite Orthodox Jewish reggae rapper,” said Kenneth Cole.

Cole was hosting an event at his Rockefeller Plaza store in NYC Thursday night – along with special guest Matisyahu as part of Fashion’s Night Out, a city-wide initiative aimed at boosting retail sales and connecting designers with their shoppers.

“You owe it to your country to shop tonight,” Cole will later remind the audience.

Matisyahu was too doing his part – treating shoppers to a powerful 45-minute set, including songs like “Jerusalem,” “I Will Be Light,” and new hit “One Day.”

Hundreds of fans – both religious and non – swayed to the music and sung along, while others were a little more shocked at the rare opportunity of an intimate performance.

“I love your peyes!” shouted a boy in the front row.

Check out a clip of the soulful performance, below.
