John Frusciante Quits Red Hot Chili Peppers

December 21, 2009

Guitarist John Frusciante has quit the Red Hot Chili Peppers, amid reports that the band is recording a follow-up to 2006’s Stadium Arcadium. Frusciante wrote a brief explanation on his MySpace page:

“When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.

To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.

Sending love and gratitude to you all.”

Rihanna Sexes It Up at MySpace Release Show

December 4, 2009

Holy hell!!!

Rihanna took the stage at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom Thursday night in NYC for a MySpace Release concert/borderline sex show!

RiRi was celebrating the release of her latest record, Rated R, and that title is accurate!
Rihanna danced blindfolded, whipped a microphone around the stage, and even rubbed herself during a risque performance of “Umbrella.”
Fans started lining up around seven a.m. to attend the free show, which included performances of “Live Your Life,” “Run This Town,” “Russian Roulette,” and “Disturbia.”

Check out the NSFW video of Rihanna touching herself (at the 00:18 mark), below.

Jay-Z Rocks Hits at Secret NYC Show

September 10, 2009

With less than 24 hours notice, Jay-Z stormed New York’s Blender Theater Wednesday night to play a secret MySpace show to some 600 lucky fans!

And Poison Ivy felt especially lucky – we were placed right in the front row!

“You all ready for that Blueprint 3?” Jay asked, though most fans probably heard the album when it leaked online last week.

“I just figured that’s the best way to silence all the critics: just keep hitting with joints like this,” Jay said, before diving into “Venus vs. Mars,” a Timberland-produced track off the new record.

Jay played tons of hits over the hour and a half-long set, including “99 Problems,” “Big Pimpin,” “Can I Get A…,” and “I Know,” of which we’ve posted a clip below!

Thanks for the memories, Jay!!

Former Panic at the Disco Members Form New Band

July 29, 2009

One month ago, former Panic at the Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left their multi-platinum selling, Grammy-nominated rock band to “embark on a musical excursion of their own.”

Today, Ross tells us more.

“We’re going with the Young Veins,” he discloses to MTV News, announcing the duo’s bandname via e-mail. “I hope you’ll check us out.”

Indeed we did! And we liked what we heard.

Check out the the boys’ folky first single, “Change” on the Young Veins MySpace page here.

Marilyn Manson Threatens the Press

July 28, 2009

You can’t make this shit up!!!

Marilyn Manson has threatened the press via his MySpace blog, citing “if one more ‘journalist’ makes a cavalier statement about me and my band, I will personally or with my fans help, greet them at their home and discover just how much they believe in their freedom of speech.”

A threat via the internet??

That’s sooo balls out!

Manson is of course referring to a recent interview with Buddyhead.com founder Travis Keller, as recounted by LA Weekly writer Erin Broadley, in which Keller calls Manson the “Antichrist Supertard” and claims the goth star is obsessed with cocaine.

“If we need a nude photo of me to prove that I am far different than the soon-to-be-murdered-in-their-home press has decided to fabricate, that is easy,” Manson continues. “But I dare you all to write one more thing that you won’t say to my face. Because I will make you say it. In that manner. That is a threat. Mm”

We’re shaking in our combat boots!!

Honor Society Sell Out Gramercy Theatre

July 23, 2009

There’s no better gig for an up-and-coming pop band than opening for the Jonas Brothers on their world tour. And now that New Jersey-based Honor Society have done that, they’re ready to headline!!

Last night was Honor Society’s first sold-out show on their Full Crazy Moon Tour (which alternates with JB’s World Tour) at New York’s Gramercy Theatre. Sold out – and they have yet to release their first record!!

HS played nearly an hour of jams, including hit single “See You in the Dark,” croony “Where Are You Now” and infectious “Here Comes Trouble.”

They’re kind of like New Kids on the Block with guitars!!

“They’re more accessible than the Jonas Brothers,” a twenty-something in the front row tells Poison Ivy, as a reason why she started liking them more than JB. (Mind you, the said twenty-year-old drove from Virginia to see them after also catching their July 13 show in D.C.)

If you haven’t already, visit Honor Society’s MySpace here, and click above to check out a snippet of their poptastic jam “Nobody Has to Know.”
