NBC Picks Up Two Conan O’Brien Pilots

January 28, 2010

Less than a week after Conan O’Brien was dropped as host of The Tonight Show, NBC has shockingly purchased two pilots from Conan O’Brien’s production company, Conaco!

The first pilot, roughly titled Justice, will “follow a Supreme Court justice who quits to start his own legal practice.”

The second is a multicamera comedy called The Pink House.

According to reports, the purchases had no part in O’Brien’s $45 million exit strategy, and Conan & co. were shocked to hear the offers!

As are we!

(Today is our 24th. 🙂

Bon Jovi visited NBC’s Today Show early Wednesday morning to perform four songs for the die-hard crowd, many of whom waited overnight in the cold: “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “Work for the Working Man,” and new single “Superman Tonight.”

We’d never come home without a goody bag, so check out a clip we got from the never-televised soundcheck of “Working Man,” below.

Alicia Keys Wakes Up Manhattan on Today Show

November 24, 2009

There are only a handful of artists we’d wake up at six a.m. to see….

And Alicia Keys is definitely at the top of that list!!

Poison Ivy went to New York’s Rockefeller Center Tuesday morning to watch the 12-time Grammy Award-winning artist wake up Manhattan with a breathtaking three-song song set, including “No One,” new single “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart,” and (what else?) “Empire State of Mind.”

“We’re in a perfect city,” Keys told the audience, before playing a mellow, Jay-Z-less rendition of the tune.

Check out a clip of the moment, below.

Tina Fey, Muhtar Kent Celebrate Public Service at Ad Council Dinner

November 19, 2009

On Wednesday night, thousands of people gathered at New York’s Waldorf Astoria to celebrate the achievements of the Ad Council, the leading organization of public service announcements for over 60 years. Ad Council aired PSAs by organizations ranging from Autism Speaks to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America to That’s Not Cool, a foundation that helps teens recognize relationship abuse via text message.

The evening raised a staggering $2.5 million.

“Now is the time to shed what is wasteful, what is unproductive, and continue communicating with your consumers and investing in your brands,” said Coca-Cola Company Chairman & CEO Muhtar Kent.

Kent was presented with the 56th Annual Public Service Award Wednesday night, and used his acceptance speech to address the many challenges the advertising world is facing.

“Keep the faith,” he told the audience, which included executives from sponsors Time Warner and Yahoo. “These tough days are going to pass.”

Seven-time Emmy Award winner and Saturday Night Live veteran Tina Fey served as Master of Ceremonies, echoing Kent’s sentiments on the importance of PSAs.

Nancy Reagan said don’t do drugs,” she recalled, from her childhood. “So I didn’t.”

“By show of hands, how many people in the room can say that?” she asked, drawing a laugh.

Fey peppered the evening with hilarious monologues – including everything from a Sarah Palin impression (“I’m gonna be doing that til I’m dead,” she noted) to a confession about her NBC show 30 Rock: ” I work on a show that you may have heard of called 30 Rock,” she told the audience. “I say you may have heard of it because I know from the ratings that you have not seen it.”

Be sure to visit the Ad Council website to learn more about their contributions.

Flo Rida Impresses Parents, Ladies at Today Show Concert

August 14, 2009

“No shirt, no shades!” shouts a middle-aged female as rapper Flo Rida takes the stage at the Today Show concert series Friday morning.

Flo, 30, was donning his signature look: a pair of shiny, oversized sunglasses, a patched-up gray muscle tee and facial hair so impeccably manicured it could make Orlando Bloom weep. If you didn’t recognize him as a multi-platinum rapper, you might think the dude was a professional wrestler.

But the crowd wanted it all off.

“You have the best abs in Hollywood!” a teenage girl in the front row chimed in.

Appearances aside, Flo Rida knows how to capture a crowd. After performing a fist-fueled “Low,” the song Matt Lauer claimed “took [Flo] around the world,” and a version of “Right Round” that had his parents beaming (bottom photo), Flo ripped through his newest hit “Jump,” sans Nelly Furtado.

Check out a clip of the action, which includes a hilarious dance by Flo, below.
