Winter Antiques Show Debuts in New York

January 23, 2010

Poison Ivy felt privileged to sneak a peek at the 56th Annual Winter Antique Show benefiting the Bronx’s East Side House Settlement before it opened to the public Thursday.

With 75 exhibitors displaying collectibles from ancient Roman times to mid-century Modern, the Winter Antiques Show is the cream of the antiques crop!

Check out photos of some of our favorite pieces from the show above, descriptions below, and be sure to visit the Winter Antiques Show through January 31 at the Park Avenue Armory.

From top: Paul Howard Manship’s “Monumental Vase” in Pink Tennessee Marble, assorted Sultepec masks and statues from 200 BCE, Aronson polychrome Delftware figurines, a Kentucky long rifle signed by William McClure (only $62,000!), Carswell Rush Berlin, Inc. mirror featuring yours truly, porcelain Japanesque clock c. 1870-80, and an English Regency games table by Phillip Colleck starting at $15,500.

Joey McIntyre Channels Jersey Shore, Talks New EP at New York Show

January 18, 2010

“I haven’t seen MTV’s Jersey Shore,” New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre tells a sold-out crowd at New York’s Highline Ballroom Saturday night. “But I know my Jersey Shore nickname: ‘Juicebox’.”

The crowd – chock-full of soccer of moms in homemade NKOTB shirts – then erupts into “Juicebox” chants before McIntyre can get in another word.

The youngest New Kid, 37, had a loyal following long before NKOTB reunited in late 2008. Two hours from now – at McIntyre’s concert afterparty at Quo nightclub in Chelsea – his fans will form a line around the block (ha) just to catch a glimpse of the singer.

Did we mention it’s 30 degrees out?

“You do what you can,” McIntyre tells Poison Ivy, when I ask if he can ever satisfy his legions.

Once inside, security is forced to build a gate around McIntyre’s VIP section at the club where we’re sitting – and it starts to feel bizarrely like 1989 as fans scream for autographs and flash photos. But even the barricade won’t stop one girl from breaking through.

“Will you talk to my sister?” she asks McIntyre, handing him a cell phone.

McIntyre takes the call, but he’s not doing much talking. “Thank you,” he laughs, while the other end is presumably telling their life story. 30 seconds passes. “That means a lot,” McIntyre says, before security catches onto what’s happening.

“I’ve always been an independent person,” McIntyre says, when I ask why he opted for a solo record less than a year after NKOTB’s reunion.

McIntyre’s seven-track EP – Here We Go Again – is a more mature sound, according to the singer, and it’s unarguably more modern than the tunes NKOTB put out last September.

McIntyre’s first single, “Here We Go Again,” (of which we’ve posted a performance video, above) accepts a generous donation from Autotune and etches a more electronic vibe – but never compromises the singer’s vocal ability.

Fellow New Kid Jordan Knight – who performed a duet of “Dirty Dancing” with McIntyre at his afterparty and revealed his Jersey Shore nickname to Poison Ivy (“J Train,” lolz) – echoed McIntyre’s sentiments when I asked about his forthcoming record.

“It’s still pop R&B,” Knight reassures me. “It’s not so different. But it’s not New Kids’ songs. It’s not juvenile.”

McIntyre seemed less nervous to play NK songs – his concert included “Twisted,” a cover of Michael Jackson‘s “I’ll Come Home To You,” solo favorites “Stay the Same” and “I Love You Came Too Late,” and a lyrically-amended “Cover Girl.”

“Woke up this morning, I was 15 again,” McIntyre sang. “We were Hangin’ Tough. Don’t you remember when?”

Timbaland Celebrates Album Release with Justin Timberlake

December 9, 2009

It’s a great night to be a New Yorker!

Poison Ivy headed to West side lounge Hudson Terrace to celebrate the release of Timbaland‘s new record Shock Value II – and the guy had plenty to celebrate!

Timbaland collaborated on the record with everyone from Miley Cyrus to Drake to The Fray to Keri Hilson to Daughtry to Katy Perry to Justin Timberlake, who stopped by to say hi!

Attitude and I wrote the shit out of this song,” Timberlake told Poison Ivy, as he sang along to new song “Carry Out,” blaring from the DJ booth.

Mazel tov, you two!

“Why wear pants in public when you can wear underwear?”

Kid Sister asked Poison Ivy at Kiss and Fly Wednesday night

(She makes a good point.)

John Mayer Visits Tim Burton Exhibit at Museum of Modern Art

November 26, 2009

We could have spent a week at Tim Burton‘s new exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.

Especially since it was the site where we ran into our favorite singer-songwriter and David Letterman rock god John Mayer!

Mayer told Poison Ivy that he sincerely enjoyed the exhibit, and asked if we’d be blogging about his appearance there.

“Can you tell everyone that I’m a captivating guy?” he joked. “Also, taller in person.”

Yes, Mayer was both tall and captivating, but before anything, a nice dude!!

We were relieved – we’d heard otherwise – and still have been worshiping his music, especially latest record Battle Studies.

The Burton exhibit was everything we hoped for and more.

Burton original paintings (like “Blue Girl With Wine,” pictured above) hung on the walls next to hand-drawn sketches of Edward Scissorhands and collectibles from Burton’s flicks.

Items included everything from the metal razors from Sweeney Todd to the Catwoman suit from Batman Returns to the headless horseman cape from Sleepy Hollow!

And of course, the room was filled with bizarre pieces like “funhouse panels,” handwritten poems with figurines, and Burton’s signature black and white swirls.

The exhibit will be available until April 26, 2010, so be sure to check it out!

Project Runway Meets Project Migration

November 12, 2009

We had a great time at the Project Migration and RedLight Children Wine Tasting at The Gates in New York last night. Project Migration sells clothing and fashion accessories, then donates the proceeds to single mothers and their families in Africa.

So it was exciting to not only be a part of the cause, but to see other folks supporting them too!

One supporter we caught up with was Project Runway model and Models of the Runway star Matar Cohen (even more beautiful in person)!

We chatted with Cohen – in Hebrew of course – about her upcoming projects, affiliation with Project Migration, and (what else?) Israel.

“I was supposed to be there for a month but ended up staying for three,” Cohen laughed, of her latest trip to the homeland. “[I view] New York as the place for my career, and Israel as my vacation.”

But she adds she’s been working on projects that will keep her in the city for some time, especially after her designer Gordana Gehlhausen was eliminated on Project Runway last week.

“It’s a secret for now,” she says, about her projects. “But I think I’ll be in New York awhile.”

Jill Zarin Channels Poison Ivy at Halloween Masquerade

November 1, 2009

You can imagine our excitement when we got to Bryant Park Grill for their Halloween Masquerade Saturday night and saw our favorite Real Housewife of New York Jill Zarin dressed as Poison Ivy!! Especially since Poison Ivy‘s costume was a real housewife of 1950!

Talk about trading places!!!

“A lot of people are dressing as Caroline from Real Housewives of New Jersey,” Zarin tells us, of RH-inspired costumes she’s seen. “And Kelly [Bensimon].”

Also at the party were Zarin’s husband Bobby (top photo), Lisa Gastineau (who talked to Poison Ivy about her new jewelry line Tres Glam: “[The evil eye necklaces] are made with all real diamonds,” she said), event promoter Sally Shan, and Ally Zarin (bottom photo), who was celebrating her birthday (“I applied to Brown yesterday!” she gushed.)

Happy Halloween, all!

Unexpected Faces at Fashion Week!

September 16, 2009

We have to admit – there were a lot unexpected faces at New York Fashion Week!!!

We already told you about our Mickey Rourke sighting at Max Azria, but who else was a curveball at the biggest fashion event of the year??

Here are photos from just a few people Poison Ivy didn’t expect to see but did: Kara Dioguardi, Joan Rivers, Ron Jeremy and Ivana Trump!!

Ok, ok, Joan Rivers isn’t that unusual at Fashion Week…

But we had to show you how unusual her face looks!
