New York Dolls Return to Their Roots

May 6, 2009

“This is beyond my wildest dreams,” New York Dolls frontman David Johansen said, as the Dolls took the stage at 315 Bowery (former home of CBGB and new home to designer John Varvatos) Tuesday night around 9:45.

It’s been 38 years, but the man’s still still got it. The 59-year old ripped through over a dozen jams with ease, rage, and (so what?) a little help from his lyrics sheets. The performance was in honor of the band’s newest release (Cause I Sez So, out yesterday), but the boys managed to pepper some rocking classics (“Trash,” “Stranded in the Jungle”) through the predominantly new set.

Varvatos, a long-time rock supporter and Dolls fan, opted to sync the performance with a live broadcast to his new Sirius Radio rock ‘n’ roll show, which also launched Tuesday.

Also supporting the boys in attendance were rock fanatic Rachael Ray, Semi-Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter, America’s Next Top Model winner CariDee English, handbag designer Jack Germain, and famed rock photographer Bob Gruen, who shot a Dolls documentary in the early ’70s.

Said Gruen:

“Life goes on and things change, but David’s the best entertainer around and the band is one of the best out there. I don’t live in the past, and I don’t think the Dolls do either.”

Hanging Out with Rachael Ray

May 1, 2009

Poison Ivy had one of the coolest afternoons ever last Tuesday when we were invited to hang out with Food Network chef (and rock aficionado) Rachael Ray during a taping of her Emmy Award-winning Rachael Ray Show!!
Our episode featured a recipe for crispy steak fajitas and an interview with actress Tracy Pollan (wife of actor Michael J. Fox), who plays Beth Holloway in Lifetime’s The Natalee Holloway Story, and will have a three episode arc on NBC’s Medium next month.
“I’m scared of that stuff,” Ray confessed during the interview, referring to Medium‘s focus on the supernatural.
Ray also was quick to confess why she was wearing a huge bandage on her left pinky during the entire taping!
“I took a nice chunk out [of it during a] 30 Minute Meals taping [over the weekend],” Ray said nonchalantly. “Secret ingredient: blood!”
The gal was comix!!!
Tune into the Rachael Ray Show tomorrow, 10 a.m. EST, to catch Ray’s entire conversation with Pollan, and don’t forget to look out for your very own Poison Ivy in the audience!!

Rachael Ray Gets Stage Time at SXSW Preview

February 28, 2009

Food Network chef Rachael Ray was feeling frisky at Wednesday’s SXSW festival preview!

So much so that she hopped onstage with Semi-Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter, turned him around, and grabbed his butt!
Said Ray:
“Not only is Tranter the most attractive person I’ve seen, but I also want his high-heeled boots!”

De-lish!
