Simon Cowell: "I’m Very Sad" to Leave Idol

January 12, 2010

It was a bittersweet start to American Idol‘s season nine, as judge Simon Cowell announced Monday that that this will be his last season on the show.

“I’m very sad,” Cowell told Ryan Seacrest during a call to his radio show Tuesday. Cowell explained he will be leaving Idol to focus on launching the American version of his UK show The X Factor this fall, where Cowell will serve as both judge and executive producer.

“I’ve always wanted to bring this other show over here,” Cowell told Seacrest. “At one point I was going to do both. But you know about overexposure, Ryan. You can’t be on TV too much.”

“I have had the best 8 or 9 years of my life doing this show,” Cowell later Tweeted.

“If I went to a psychiatrist, it would be a long session. I’ve always thought that I do have a number of issues that probably need dealing with, because I am quite odd in some ways. I get very dark moods for no reason.”

Paula‘s frustrating, she’s annoying and I can’t understand half of what she’s talking about – but there’s incredible comfort between us. I think we’re possibly secretly in love with each other.”

April 23, 2009

As Simon Cowell reminded us last week, Matt Giraud‘s save would result in two eliminations this week. Those eliminations ended up being Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai.

Following a performance by season seven winner David Archuleta and group performance that included a Paula Abdul dance routine, the top five were announced:

Adam Lambert, Alison Iraheta, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey and Matt Giraud.

Good luck, everyone!

Judges’ Save Used for Matt Giraud

April 17, 2009

It was a rollercoaster ending on American Idol Wednesday night, as the viewer-ousted Matt Giraud was unanimously saved by all four judges, following a truly awful rendition of “Have You Really Ever Loved a Woman” by Bryan Adams. (It was movie week, and Quentin Tarantino mentored.)

“It’s good news,” Simon Cowell finally said, after noting that Giraud’s performance was much better the first night.

“Guys, girls, I wouldn’t be so quick to congratulate him,” Cowell continued. “No. 1, two people are going home next week now. Second piece of bad news: Next week, it’s disco week.”

March 26, 2009

On Tuesday’s Tonight Show, American Idol‘s Simon Cowell revealed that he recently denied a dinner invitation from President Barack Obama.

Said Cowell:
“He wanted to do eight, I was free at nine and we just didn’t quite connect.”

Good to know you treat everyone like shit, not just AI contestants!
Update: Simon Cowell stated on March 26’s episode of American Idol that the statements he made about snubbing Obama for dinner on The Tonight Show were “a joke,” although, upon playback, he seemed awfully serious!!

Simon Cowell Insults Paula, House Band

February 18, 2009

The situation on American Idol was so bad Tuesday night, that Simon actually starting insulting the house band!

“I have to say, terrible arrangement,” Cowell began, before looking toward American Idol‘s house band, which features Rickey Minor. “Awful keyboard, whatever that was. I mean the whole thing was just atrocious.”
Cowell later took a shot at Paula Abdul after dramatic contestant Tatiana del Toro performed Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love For You.”
“You are a complete and utter drama queen,” Cowell told del Toro. “You are. I’ve never met anyone in my life, probably with the exception of Paula, that wanted fame more. You are desperate to be famous.

Ouch!!
