Talking Shop with The Brains Behind Bflix

October 14, 2009

It was an exciting night for the world of independent shorts!!

Bloomingdale’s teamed up with Young Indies Films to hold a special screening and Q&A for the brains behind Bflix, a five short-film set created by up-and-coming directors, held at Tribeca Cinemas Tuesday night.

Among the panel were (from left) Executive Producer/Q&A moderator Rose Ganguzza, Tall Enough actor Stephen Lin, The Love Game director Andrew Hunt, Tea For 3 director Amy Redford, My Adventures in Ladies’ Undergarments, 4th Floor director Antonio Campos, and Recession Special director Emily Abt.

“I never made a short before so I was terrified and nervous,” revealed Amy Redford, who directed 2008’s critically-acclaimed The Guitar. “But Bloomingdale’s let us make our own movies. And that was incredibly satisfying.”

Antonio Campos, named one of Variety‘s 10 Directors to Watch in 2009, too spoke out about the challenges of shooting a movie on a two-day deadline.

“You get trained to get what you need in the time that you have,” Campos told the audience. “It always leads to something better than expected.”
