Lenny Kravitz Blazes Through Night Three at Irving Plaza

October 15, 2009

“I’m losing my fucking voice but I’m going to stay up here until I can’t speak,” Lenny Kravitz tells the crowd at Irving Plaza Wednesday night.

It probably doesn’t help that Kravitz is saying this as he chugs from a bottle of vodka, or that he’s only on night three of a five-night residency at Irving Plaza – the same venue where U2, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash all cut their teeth.

“The only thing I can compare [losing my voice] to is wanting to make love to a beautiful woman, but not being able to get up,” Kravitz concludes.

But he still plows forward.

Kravitz rocks the stage for over two hours, delivering powerful versions of “Let Love Rule,” “I Belong To You,” “Fly Away,” “It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over,” and even a brief cover of Pink Floyd‘s “Another Brick in the Wall.”

Among the audience is The Roots’ Questlove, who’s wearing a giant backpack and tells Poison Ivy he’s coming straight from a gig. “I’ve come to all Lenny’s shows,” he says.

Check out Kravitz performing a rambunctious encore of “Let Love Rule,” over twenty years later, above. A snippet of “Fly Away” and some fantastic snapshots of the night, below.

Questlove Spins at NYC Club

July 24, 2009

It’s not every day you walk into a club and find The Roots drummer Questlove at the DJ booth.

So you can imagine our excitement when we saw him at New York hotspot Kiss and Fly Wednesday night!

Questlove DJed rare jams until the wee hours of the morning – spinning everything from Cam’ron to Ray Charles to Maroon5.

He completely surpassed the unexpected!!

Making the night possible were Bloc Group marketing guru Matthew Isaacs, 22 Events impresario Madi Lager and DJ Dimitry.

Great night, all!
